Serena Brown, Teaching Artist

Serena Brown (She/Her), a NJ/NY based dance artist and educator. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Montclair State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts dance degree. She has performed works by Stefanie Batten Bland, Fredrick Earl Mosley, Liz Gerring, Mei-Yin Ng, Tiffany Rea-Fisher, Jessica DiMauro Marks, Mark Harootian Larry Keigwin, and Helen Pickett. Brown was awarded the NJ Governors Dance Arts in Education Award in 2017. Brown’s teaching philosophy is to create a safe and welcoming learning environment. She meets each student at their level and strives to bring out their personal best. She believes that open communication between student and teacher is extremely important in the learning process. As a mental and physical health advocate, Brown puts students as people first and dancers second. Her goal is to help her students understand that dance is a transformative and accessible art form for everyone, regardless of their background or experience.
