Katie Palmer, Executive Director

Katie Palmer is a Teaching Artist, Arts Administrator, Theater Maker and passionate Arts Advocate. A native of San Diego, CA, she is a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Drama. She joined Together in Dance in 2014 as a Teaching Artist, the only person on the roster teaching both Creative Movement and Musical Theater. After six years completing 33 residencies in seven schools, Katie was selected to succeed Karen Curlee and Roslyn Biskin as the Executive Director of Together in Dance. Her tenure began July 1, 2020.

Prior to this position, Katie worked as a Teaching Artist specializing in Theater, Dance and Musical Theater throughout New York City and California in public schools and community programs. Passionate about the personal discoveries, communal awareness and empathy developed through participation in the arts, Katie taught with New York Theatre Workshop, Disney Theatrical Group, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Center for Arts Education and La Jolla Playhouse. She co-founded Theater in Asylum in 2010. In addition to serving as co-Artistic Director, she has been a co-creator of every production since its inception, including: Nijinsky in Asylum(Choreography/Story), TIA’s Frankenstein (Choreography/Script/Performer), Revolution in 1 (Concept/Script/Choreography), and ¡OLE! (Choreography - performed at 2014 Prague International Fringe Festival). Katie is also co-creator of The Brontës with Sarah Ziegler Blair and Lucas Tahiruzzaman Syed. In addition to co-writing the book, Katie directed a workshop production presented by Piper Theater Productions in July 2017. Katie is also Communications Director of The League of Independent Theater, an advocacy group for the makers of Independent Theater in New York City.
